DSC02830_300x225

Berlevåg Harbour Museum is a charming institution officially opened in June 1988. It is located on the area earlier possessed by what today are named "The Norwegian Coastal Administration". They were leading the construction work of the breakwaters in Berlevåg. The Museum´s main building is a restored stockhouse from around 1950. An old shuttleboat is exhibited in a building of a more recent origin. The boat was used for transportation of people and goods until the dock was finished in 1974. The intention of the Museum is to create interest and knowledge above all about seafaring, fishing and the building of breakwaters in Berlevåg.

Around 1960 the tetrapods were adopted providing strong breakwaters for protection of the harbour in Berlevåg. A tetrapod is a four-legged concrete structure used as armour unit on breakwaters. The tetrapod's shape is designed to dissipate the force of incoming waves. READ MORE..{+}
